Morgan Stanley today celebrated the success of its inaugural EMEA Diversity Month, an initiative designed to increase awareness and encourage best practice around diversity. Over 1,200 employees participated in a month-long series comprised of eight separate inspirational and informative presentations hosted by some of the leading thinkers in the area of diversity, as well as some of sport and television’s most popular personalities who brought a unique perspective to how a diverse workforce can improve the effectiveness of teams.
Amongst others, Clare Balding, a former jockey and current BBC sports presenter interviewed Ben Cohen, MBE, World Cup winning rugby legend about his work with the Stand Up Foundation, formed to eradicate homophobic bullying in sport; Fiona Bruce, the well known BBC newscaster and presenter interviewed Auschwitz survivor, Eva Schloss; and Karren Brady, vice-chairman of West Ham Football Club and an assistant on the Apprentice, spoke at the launch event of the new Morgan Stanley Women's Business Alliance and highlighted six key elements to achieve success in the workplace.
The Women’s Business alliance is a strategic, business driven initiative to integrate, encourage and promote career development for women. It aims to provide women with the advice and support to help them maximise their potential, foster professional and business relationship building, and help the firm retain and promote its best female talent.
Commenting on Diversity Month, Colm Kelleher, Co-President of Institutional Securities and Head of EMEA and Asia Pacific, said: ‘Diversity is a business imperative at Morgan Stanley and the high profile and thought provoking events during our 2011 Diversity Month have increased awareness, dialogue and engagement on this important topic.”
