Employees of Morgan Stanley Singapore took nearly 300 underprivileged children to the Underwater World and the Dolphin Lagoon in Sentosa this morning, to support the Firm's first Global Volunteer Month.
To underscore Morgan Stanley's commitment to employee volunteerism and recognize the importance of contributing to local communities as part of our culture, the Firm designated June as Global Volunteer Month. Throughout the month, employees from offices around the world are organizing and taking part in a range of volunteering activities and events.
80 Morgan Stanley employees - who account for about 30 percent of the Firm's workforce in Singapore - volunteered their time to participate in this project. They spent the day hosting, guiding and interacting with children made up of different age groups from diverse family backgrounds.
"Morgan Stanley is committed to being a good corporate citizen in communities across the globe where our employees live and work," said Ronald Ong, Chief Executive Officer, South East Asia, Morgan Stanley. “We always believe that charitable giving should not be restricted to corporate donations, but should involve as many employees as possible through volunteering. Getting our employees together and spending quality time with the less-fortunate children help achieve this goal.”
The trip to Sentosa was the first for many of these children. It was a fun-filled day and at the same time educational, as they ventured into the ocean depths of the Underwater World as well as observed and interacted with the highly intelligent Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins in the Dolphin Lagoon.
Morgan Stanley collaborated with six local charitable organizations for an outing of this scale. The organizations were CARE (Children-At-Risk-Empowerment), Canossaville Children's Home, Singapore Children's Society, Henderson CC Children Story Telling Club, Salvation Army - Kids in PAUS (Play Activities under the Salvation Army) and Children's Cancer Foundation.
“It is very important to foster that community spirit amongst our employees, right here in the office, and to get everyone involved in a very hands-on way,” said Patricia Luchangco, Chairperson of Morgan Stanley's Singapore Charity Committee. “It warms our hearts to go beyond simply raising funds by joining these children at Sentosa to feel their joy and see their smiling faces.”
Since the beginning of June, a series of community service events has been organized by Morgan Stanley - from New York to Hong Kong to Sydney. The Firm hopes the initiatives would help make Global Volunteer Month a successful springboard for a great year of volunteerism and beyond.
