Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) is pleased to announce the publication of its latest issue of Perspectives in Philanthropy, Vol. 9, “Athletes and Entertainers Giving Back”, a quarterly journal that redefines charitable giving in meaningful and effective ways.
The featured athletes and entertainers describe how they chose their philanthropic causes, the outcomes they hope to accomplish and the lessons they have learned from running nonprofits. The nonprofits featured include the Amy Winehouse Foundation, Yum-o! (founded by Rachael Ray), HealthCorps (co-founded by Dr. Oz), the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation (co-founded by JAY-Z), The Hawn Foundation (founded by Goldie Hawn), the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, Every Mother Counts (founded by Christy Turlington Burns), Teammates for Kids (founded by Garth Brooks), the Connecticut Sports Foundation (founded by John Ellis), the Allan Houston Legacy Foundation and the Rob Dyrdek Foundation.
According to Melanie Schnoll Begun, Managing Director and Head of Philanthropy Management at Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management, “While instant name recognition has its benefits, nonprofits face challenges every day with or without a celebrity spokesperson. In our practice, we assist nonprofits and their funders on how to handle the challenges, like fundraising and board development, so that their efforts lead to impactful and purposeful philanthropy.”
All of the celebrities and their families are passionate about putting an actionable plan in place to benefits others. Christy Turlington Burns, the founder of Every Mother Counts and a global maternal health advocate, said, “I’m always grateful for the opportunity to spotlight the issue of maternal mortality in an effort to engage new audiences in the fight to improve the health and well-being of girls and women.” Another article describes how Mitch Winehouse came to honor his daughter’s musical legacy by establishing a foundation that supports children’s jazz programs in New Orleans. Rachael Ray draws parallels between cooking at an early age with her mother and the creation of Yum-o!, a nonprofit that empowers children and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking.
“Morgan Stanley recognizes the need and importance for clients to incorporate giving into their wealth management plans,” said Steven Rosandich, Vice President of Philanthropy Management at Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management. “We are committed to helping clients unlock their philanthropic passion and create personal generosity plans that might include creating a private foundation or public charity.”
