Helping Underserved Youth in Oakland
Jul 15, 2015Healthy Cities Oakland partnered with local and national nonprofits to teach local kids about nutrition and deliver healthy food, health screening and safe play spaces.
Healthy Cities Oakland identified the unique need to expand essential social services not only for elementary school age children, but those in middle and high school as well. Led by the Alameda County Community Food Bank, the initiative in Oakland transformed schools and public libraries into community hubs that integrated and delivered wellness education, health screenings, physical play and nutritious foods to children and their families.
